1. What is the Dura-Whelp Box made of?
Visual perception can be a problem. This is industrially extruded Five-Millimeter Corrugated Plastic, not coated cardboard. That is why we can offer the 3 year guarantee on the box.
You should not judge the box until it is assembled. The walls may seem flimsy until the puppy rails are in, they frame and strengthen the entire box.
2. How high are the puppy rails (pig rails) off the floor?
- S ----- 4 inches
- M ----- 4 1/2 inches
- L ----- 4 1/2 inches
- XL ----- 4 1/2 inches
3. Are inside dimensions the same as the outside?
No! Your bitch loses about 6 inches in living space because of the rails
Inside Dimensions
- Small becomes a 28" x 28"
- Medium becomes a 34" x 34"
- L becomes a 42" x 42"
- XL becomes a 54" x 42"
The Puppy rail is 3 inches wide and 7/8 inch thick.
4. How thick is the plastic?
- About 1/4 inch thick, and is folded to make the top edges 1/2 inch thick.
5. How heavy are the Dura-Whelp Boxes?
It depends on the Size.
- Small= 13 lbs.
- Memdium= 17 lbs.
- Large= 20 lbs.
- XL= 25 lbs.
6. How high is the door opening from the floor?
- S 6 inches
- M 7 inches
- L 7 inches
- XL 8 inches
7. What cleaners can be used on the plastic?
The whelping box can be cleaned with most products: bleach, detergent, Quatricide, etc. To remove newspaper print, we suggest using a soft-scrub cleanser for counter tops.
8. What heat sources can be used?
- The Therma-Whelp, Heat lamps and heating pads can be used safely.
9. How is the Dura-Whelp put together?
Only a Philip's head screwdriver is needed. Everything is held together with industrial strength Velcro. The bottom is 1 piece that unfolds and has flaps around the edge. The wall unit is 1 piece that opens up and sits on top of the floor piece. The flaps then come up and Velcro to the sides. Then you insert the rails. 2 of the rails go directly through the walls and the other 2 fit between them. This is what frames and steadies the box. Detailed instructions are included with every box.
10. What size box is right for my breed?
Please see Breed to Size Recommendations page.
11. How do I wash my Dura-Whelp Pads?
Wash the pads as you like, however we recommend machine wash and hang dry.
12. How high should the Therma-Whelp Lamp be positioned?
At average room temperature (72 degrees F.) it should be positioned 30 inches above the cradle. Some adjustments may be required to achieve 85 to 95 degrees F.
13. Are there any electrical cords attached to the Therma-Whelp Cradle?
No, the Therma-Whelp Cradle does not generate heat. It collects heat from the emitter and redistributes it. Thus, no cord is needed.
14. How much $$$ does it cost?
